Have you checked out this week’s NEW TEES yet? Well, we asked this weeks artists "What inspired your design?"
“After seeing for the umpteenth time a documentary about species being slaughtered into extinction, whether for their fins, fur, horns, etc., simply to satisfy the greed and fantasies of a few, it got me drawing. What if things weren’t so easy anymore, and the victims decided to give a fight?”
“Fallen Star started out as a personal project by collaborating with artist Z4NN1, and then forgotten and abandoned before completion. After moving, I discovered the project amidst old sketches, and the potential of the drawing couldn’t be ignored. Three days of work presumed, resulting in the completion of an illustration that captures the vintage of things forgotten.” Buy this tee now!
"The title came to me first, and then I knew I just had to draw a Doctor Who wardrobe. I wanted to create a design that subtly depicted the enormous history of the show. I love the idea of all those outrageously different outfits sitting together, ready to be worn by the one and only Doctor. So many trinkets from so many adventures… of course, you need a Tardis-sized wardrobe to fit it all in! I hope that each time you wear my design, a new little detail catches your eye and sparks a memory of past adventures in time and space." Buy this tee now!
“The Photography 2 contest gave me the perfect occasion to use a photo shot inside a train tunnel in Italy. When I placed the image on the shirt template, I realized that the exit of the tunnel with its light corresponded to the position of the heart in the body. For this reason, I chose the title ‘A Trip to Your Heart’. I was really surprised and happy when I realized that I was the contest winner, knowing how difficult it is to win when you compete with so many talented designers. I want to say thanks very much to Threadless and also to everyone who supported me.” Buy this tee now!
“I’d been brainstorming doing a ‘field guide’ of something. I had a number of ideas bouncing around… coffee, places, animals, and some others, which lead to the idea of an art guide. I had been looking at some cat gifs while thinking of René Magritte’s work, and I imagined a cat replacing Magritte’s painting, ‘The Son of Man’. René Macatte became the first in that list and before I knew it, I had created the rest one by one. The idea seemed so silly in my head that I had to create it just to see how really silly it really was. I’m glad I did!” Buy this tee now!
Franx: “As far as your question goes, the design concept was 100% Dick Firestorm’’s idea. Dick approached me out of the blue with a couple concepts, and this one of a bodacious woman riding a big cat with a peacock in it’s mouth and feathers being tossed around stood out to me. The concept, for me, is reminiscent of those colorful UV posters from the ‘60’s and ‘70’s, so that’s where the inspiration for the visual look and colors came from.”
Dick: “Majestic fuckin’ lions and Sofia Vergara, bro.”
