MEET THE POCKET TEE DESIGN CHALLENGE WINNER!
In the t-shirt world, you’ve got a bevy of options. You’ve got your crew neck. You’ve got your v-neck. You’ve got the crops, and you’ve got the over-sized. And, for those of you who like a little chest flair, we’ve got the pocket tee. And who ever said such a cute little storage unit should be anything but total awesomeness? So, we launched the Pocket Tee design challenge, asking all of you to makeover the pocket tee’s very pocket itself, and honor it with the attention and limelight it surely deserves after all those years of being such a hard-working, pen-holding, Chapstick keeping tee accessory. And who blew us away the most with his pocket pizazz? That would be artist uptme, from Thailand, with his out-of-the-world design “Take a Break”. Congrats on your winning design “Take a Break” for our Pocket Tee design challenge! Why don’t you tell us a little bit about yourself?
“I’m a graphic designer born in Thailand. I’m passionate about art and everything that has to do with design.”
Creating a design for only a pocket is obviously a unique type of challenge. What drew you to it?
“I like to challenge myself to make new solutions, and this type of challenge interested me since it requires applying a minimal design to a small area. Less is more, and indeed it is.”
What inspired the concept behind your design?
“I was always interested in space, and that mysterious world out there. So, when I saw the pocket, I found the chance to apply that concept in a funny way.”
How did the shape of the pocket affect the direction of your design?
“It helped me because I needed to position my character as sitting and relaxing in something; thus the top of the pocket.”
Why is a pocket the perfect spot for an astronaut to take a break?
“Haha, well. Astronauts definitely live in their own world. They always find ways to escape and be in places where nobody else can get. So, why not the pocket to take a rest and enjoy an origami plane?”
How does the astronaut keep himself lodged in that pocket once gravity tries to get the best of him?
“The astronaut is a dreamer, and the pocket provides relaxation and space for him to think of what to do next. He’s relaxed, satisfied and enjoying his time.”
Would you mind taking us through the process of creating your design? Feel free to share WIP’s, if possible!
When it’s time to take a break, where’s your fave spot to do so?
“It’s always healthy to take a break with the stress and fast life we live in. And yes, Thailand my country, offers many inspirational break spots to enjoy moments of silence and let your imagination go wild.”
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever found in your pocket?
“Hahaha, well, I once found once that I wrote to myself reminding me to finish urgent work. I guess now it wasn’t urgent and I was really relaxed.”
Any other shout-outs?
“Let’s take a break.”
