So you’ve either been selected for print or just want to start preparing your files for your upcoming Artist Shop*? Well, here’s a breakdown of setting up your files for print. Of course, make sure you have the necessary software to work with our templates – Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator are suggested, but there are free programs out there like GIMP that work just as well for setting up your files!

For submitted and selected designs on Threadless.com, you can find the file uploader on your Artist Dashboard. On any design, an ‘Upload high-res art’ link appears in the shell. Click this to start uploading.

*Our Artist Shop tools will generate an initial art file for all products, but you will have the option to override these images to fit your liking.

MASTER FILE

Master File is your original, raw file. This can be in the format of a PSD (Photoshop Document), AI (Adobe Illustrator vector file), or any other high resolution and quality images (tiff, jpg, etc.). This file is then taken by us and set-up for printing.

Ideal settings: 300dpi, RGB
Size of document varies – size your document to how you envision it on the shirt (12×12″ is a nice base for a document, but it never hurts to work larger! If you’d like your design to work on a large format all-over print, you should set your document to at least 20×20″ at 300dpi)

DEVICE CASES

Setting up device cases for iPhones, Galaxy, and others!

Requirements: 1200×1900 pixels, maximum quality JPG.

For device cases, we have provided an iPhone template to help setting up your files. Please note that your artwork must be cropped to size with no additional borders. Any image containing a border, not meant as part of the design, is subject to misprint.

Setting up your files is super easy – once you open the template, all the guidelines are provided.

Let’s add a design to help you visualize it easier:

centering

Notie that within the purple guidelines are for a nice centered image on the case without bleeding over the edges. The accuracy of placement is dependent on the art file, so make sure you are satisfied on the placement before saving. Once you’re ready, delete the layer with all the guidelines (it should be called ‘DELETE BEFORE SAVING’. If you don’t complete this step, your iPhone cases will print with the guidelines on them!

For reference, your document should look something like this before saving:

This file is good to go. Now we need to save this as a hi-res JPG image. In your software, go to File / Save As.. and make sure the format you’re saving in is JPG. The quality should be 100 if given the option. And you’re done! After saving, go back to your dashboard and upload your saved file into the ‘IPHONE ARTWORK’ section.

Here’s what the final product will look like! HEAVY!

WALL ART / CANVAS

Setting up your files for wall art and canvas prints!

Requirements: Portrait (3788×5588 pixels), Landscape (5588×3788 pixels), or Square (3788×3788 pixels), Highest Quality JPG (Note: It is not necessary to upload all orientations, choose the one orientation that fits your design best and upload accordingly.)

There is no template for this, so in your software, create a new document in the size you want your wall art to be (see above for sizes).

Let’s do a square wall art as an example:

*Most important settings: right dimensions, RGB, 300dpi.

Once your happy with your cropping, it’s time to save. Now we need to save this as a hi-res JPG image. In your software, go to File / Save As.. and make sure the format you’re saving in is JPG. The quality should be 100 if given the option. And you’re done! After saving, go back to your dashboard and upload your saved file into the ‘WALL ART/CANVAS’ section. Make sure to upload to the correct orientation!

Important notes: Prints will be finished with a 1-inch white border; please keep this in mind when sizing your artwork! There’s no need to create a 1-inch border on your design file if that’s your desired look.
