Do you have what it takes to bring to life the legend of a legendary warrior whose kung fu skills are the stuff of legend?

Shhh don’t answer that. Because regardless, Mickaël Rabin’s, a.k.a Mr. Wayne (hmmm…do you think his spirit animal might be a bat?) winning Kung Fu Panda design will let you channel your inner spirit animal and general awesomeness all at the same time.

We talked to “Mr. Wayne” about the cosmos, Obi Wan Kenobi, and, of course, Batman (because how could we not?) Check out what he had to say below!

.   .   .

Between you and me…are you the real Batman? Er, I mean, “Bruce Wayne?”

No! I feel closer to Bruce Wayne than Batman, but without the costume and money!

Had to get that out of my system. What’s your favorite Kung Fu Panda character?

I think it’s Master Shifu! A mix of Yoda and Obi Wan Kenobi!

I love the magical, dream-like feel of all of your designswhat inspires you?

Everything around me – the nature, the sky, the night, the stars, people, my cat, and especially my children.

Is the cosmos a major source of inspiration for you? It’s beautifully incorporated in so much of your work.

Oh yes, it makes me dreaming, traveling, reflecting, I feel so relaxed when I look at the stars!

Your artwork has a very specific look and visual texture to it – what medium do you use?

Thanks, I appreciate that. For the visual texture, I used the fusion mode “dissolve” on photoshop!

What was the process for this design like?

My process is very simple – I use the same for all my designs. I draw hugely until I find a good composition, and then I scan everything and rework the design on photoshop, and I try to affix a good consistency in color and a bit of texture to bring out all!

“Masters Attack!”

Is this your first design challenge win?

No, it’s not the first, I won The Incredibles contest too! And it’s just amazing for me to be printed on Threadless with the number of talented illustrators that we can find here! I hope it’ll not be the last…

So I gotta ask, just one more – why the Batman name but no Batman art??

Because Bruce Wayne rocks!
