How to Sci-Fi Your Space with Geek Chic

See what we did there?

Myth: you have to sacrifice a swanky-looking, chic room to rep your favorite pieces of geekery.

FALSE. In fact, decking out your place in geek chic swag can actually do that opposite – it adds a bit of flair to a room and, when done right, can look dang artistic without looking like a comic book shop or video store (RIP, Blockbuster…RIP…)

Here are some tips to transform a plain old space into your own personal Batcave, Hobbit Hole, or Area 51!

Bulbasaur Planters

This is either the best idea of all time, the cutest idea of all time, or the best cute idea of all time. Bulbasaur planters (often 3D-printed for that lil extra boost of geekery) are an awesome way to green up your space while still keeping the geek chic going.

For extra Poké-authenticity, I suggest pairing these planters with little succulents, cacti, or a bundle of airplants.

And of course, if you don’t want to have an army of Bulbasaurs (but like…why wouldn’t you want that), you can mix it up with some regular ‘ol dinosaur planters as well!

A Fanboy/girl gallery wall

Steger & Scott Steger | “Space Travel” by CARBINE | “Future Girl” by Rafael Pereira | “Planet X” by Pykee Lambaco | “Taking Control” by Nabhan Abdullatif | “All of Time and Space” by Alice X. Zhang

So little space to cover, so many different sci-fi genres to cover.

If you don’t want to pick a specific theme for your geeky space, movie cave, or office, making a wall of awesome geeky art is a great way to rep all of the things you love without having to choose.

And to change it up, mix up your space by having a gallery on one wall and a tapestry on the other! Currently a little obsessed with the astronaut peeking through the moon tapestry.

Light up your space with literal moonlight

“Moonlight” from Barnes and Noble

Fun lighting accents are a solid way to light up your space – literally and figuratively. Plus, they’re practical and geeky!

“Firefly String Lights” from Urban Outfitters

Or hang some string lights to bring the starry night out of space and into your space. Especially nice for those of us city dwellers who only get maybe three stars (or are those airplane lights passing by?) to gaze at on clear nights.

Throw in some throw pillows

Fun throw pillows are an awesome accent to any room, not to mention a great conversation piece. And they pretty much mesh with any room, any space, and any place.

And, added bonus: let’s say you ran out of space on that gallery wall – you can make your couch a gallery too!

DIY Comic Book collages

These are easy, addicting, and weirdly relaxing to make. It may seem sacrilegious to cut up comic books, but it’s a great and stylish way to 1: give them new life and 2: make an awesome statement piece for any room. Plus, it’s a really fun craft to do.

Learn how to do it here at modpodgerocksblog.

Geekify your bathroom

The bathroom is often an overlooked, missed opportunity for reppin’ your geeky style. Shower curtains provide amazing canvases to transform your shower into a portal to the future, into a pixellated world, onto LV-426, or into Mordor.

But be warned: one does not simply shower in Mordor…
